In recent years, China has experienced a flourishing development of social enterprises of various types. The governance issues of these newly emerged social enterprises become a research topic of theoretical and practical importance. From an international comparison perspective, this paper examines the divergence of varying types of SEs in terms of their ownership patterns, governance structures and governance models. Also, it discusses the relevance and application of contesting Western governance theories in the reality of SEs’ governance practices in China.
