The 3rd Social Policy Mental Health Interdisciplinary Academic Salon, hosted by China Institute of Health, was held on 11 January 2013 in Beijing Normal University. Prof. Wang Xiaohui from The 261 Hospital of People’s Liberation Army delivered a presentation on The Mental Health Status of Only Children and Adolescence in China, based on her more than 30 years clinical experience and research.

According to her research, the only children, compared with the non-only children, display more personality flaws, more troubles in fitting in to the society, developing a healthy character andunderstanding and showing love to others.

In her presentation, Prof. Wang Xiaohui took a retrospect of Chinas Only Child Policy and explained the impact this very policy has caused on Chinese families. She then analyzed the causes of only childrens psycho-social problems by citing her large number of clinical cases.

Students, coming from SSDPP and other schools of Beijing Normal University, exchanged views with the professor at the end of the salon.
