Beijing Institute of Social Development

The Beijing Committee of Social Workers and Beijing Normal University have established the Beijing Institute of Social Development together, in order to make the best use of their collective academic advantages and superior talent to serve the research and practice of social development in Beijing. With its clear focus on social progress and its professional spirit in empirical studies, the Institute will involve professionals in social development at BNU, taking responsibility for advancing national development and directly serving the ongoing development of China's capital city, based on the requirements of the government and the public.

1. Mission

As an educational and research institute aiming to promote social equality and development, we will employ various measures such as education, research, training and policy consultation to:

 study major problems in the capital's development and propose practical solutions in order to advance scientific decision-making and policy implementation in the process of social development;

 cultivate talents with global insights and advanced expertise in public policy through comprehensive and advanced education to build Beijing into an international metropolis;

 establish early-warning mechanisms for major risk events based on solid research capabilities and in-depth empirical observation to offer firm foundations for decision-making;

 build a channel for university students in Beijing based on the platform of BNU to provide direct service for the community-building and social development.

2. Goals

Taking the pressing issues related to Beijing's social development and public policy into consideration, the Institute will promote the development of Beijing through disciplinary enhancement, personnel training and scientific research at BNU, based on the construction of an empirical base, a policy platform, key project research, and talent training. Through innovative methods and resource integration, the Institute will pursue the goal of becoming in the next three to five years a vital policy research center on Beijing's social development, a center for personnel training and international exchange, a management center for Beijing universities serving social development, and a supervision center for the most serious challenges in Beijing's social development.
