Dr. Xiaoxin XU is an associate professor of School of Social Development and Public Policy, Beijing Normal University, teaching courses on social policy analysis, social program and innovation, and public policy process.

 

His research focuses on social policy process, social governance and state-building. Most recently he is engaged in work on philanthropy in digital age, and tobacco control policy in China with a focus on electronic cigarettes. His most recent publications include Social Policy Process in China: Interaction between Central and Local Government (2018, China Social Sciences Press, in Chinese), Perceptions and Use of Electronic Cigarettes among Young Adults in China (Tobacco Induced Diseases, 2019, with Professor Xinsong Wang, Xiulan Zhang and Ying Gao), and Electronic Cigarette Use and Smoking Cessation Behavior among Adolescents in China (Addictive Behaviors, 2018, with Professor Xinsong Wang, Xiulan Zhang and Ying Gao).

 

He holds a Ph.D. in public policy from the School of Social Development and Public Policy, Beijing Normal University. He received his master’s degree in management science and engineering from the School of Public Policy and Management, and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He was selected as an Ash Fellow in AY017-2018 at Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation, Harvard University, being engaged in the research on philanthropy in China with big data method.

 

Dr. Xu had experience of over six years in business and policy consulting before he began to teach at Beijing Normal University. He is a member of Social Policy Research Committee, Chinese Sociological Association. Away from office, he enjoys making time with his family, making tea and coffee.
