The Fourth Youth Leadership Social Development Summer Camp (2012) kicked off in Beijing on July 11th, 2012. The event was jointly launched by Beijing Normal University, the University of Hong Kong, Taiwan University and the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and with the support of China’s Ministry of Education. 48 participants from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Chinese Taiwan joined the program this year.

The summer camp this year is themed on the “Innovative Protection of Cultural Relics”. Participants were asked to come to the camp with their initial studies on the status of the cultural relics in their respective communities. After a serious training and team building, they would hit the field sites and conduct field studies. They would then come up with their own solutions to tackle the challenges. These findings and solutions would later be asked to be presented before the judges and face the questions from them. The participant who has impressed the judges the best would win the award of “the most promising social entrepreneur in future”.

This year, representatives from Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, Intel China, British Council and IBM have taken on the roles as the trainees of this program. Their job was to help participants learn how to perceive and deal with social issues the Social Corporate way.

It’s the fourth year of the program Youth Leadership Social Development Summer Camp. Two participants, so inspired by the program, have already founded their own social corporations. They are Li Jialun and Sun Lin, both 2008-admitted social work major at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics.
