4.20 Ya'an Earthquake gained the attention of all Chinese people. What is the situation in the disaster areas? How is the relief work going? Are the Internet rumors true? What is the reason? The Sixth "CFP Capacity Building Workshop" invited 2012 MPA student Wang Heng to talk about what he saw and heard in the disaster areas as a accredited journalist of "Voice of China", striving to restore the most realistic disaster relief scene. On May 11, nearly 20 CFP students, MPA students and postgraduates attended the event.

In the activity, through detailed pictures, Wang Heng introduced his real life in the seven days in Lushan after the earthquake. He said that the emergency response and collaboration of the government, NGOs and volunteers as well as the public self-help work this time were much better than that in 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake relief in 2008. The orderly, efficient relief work organization was repeatedly mentioned in his speech.

On the event, he also told many touching stories in the relief work, including the story of a persistent young man who went to the disaster by nine vehicles, the optimistic and positive story on wish making of the children in the face of disaster, etc. Wang Heng’s passionate speech took us back to the disaster area to experience the pain and joy in the post-disaster relief work.

After experience sharing, the participants exchanged views with Wang Heng on what they were interested. Some students said they would go to the disaster areas to support the re-construction work, and some other students who are experienced in post-disaster relief also gave sound advices. The workshop came to  a successful conclusion in the participants’ good wishes for Ya'an.

CFP Capacity Building Workshop will continue to invite students from more areas to share their experience. Please stay tuned.
