Our doctoral Student Attends and Addresses the 12th Shanghai International Forum on Children

From October 19 to 20, 2021, the 12th Shanghai International Forum on Children was held in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. Nearly 100 people from 17 countries and regions attended the event and exchanged views on the theme of "quality life and children's development".


Huang Guan, a doctoral student of SSDPP who was enrolled in 2019 and majors in public management, was invited to attend the event and delivered a report titled "sacred imagination and de-sanctification practice: Research on the difference of stakeholders' definition of child abuse by preschool teachers" at the sub-forum of "welfare policy and children's rights". The report focuses on the issue of child protection in the context of the promulgation and implementation of the newly revised "Law on the Protection of Minors" and the improvement of the quality of preschool education. In addition to the substantive problem of the occurrence mechanism of child abuse by preschool teachers, it points out, it is also an important issue worthy of attention to understand the differences in the definition of "child abuse" by different groups and gradually reach a consensus. Representatives from UNICEF, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Nankai University, Yunnan University and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences attended the sub-forum. The participants affirmed Huang Guan's report, exchanged views and put forward suggestions for further improvement.

SSDPP has good research results and advantages in the field of child welfare and child protection and has been approved for the research of some key projects and general projects supported by the National Social Science Fund of China as well as some projects entrusted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs in this field over the years. These projects have not only given good advices to government and served the society, but also provided a good platform for postgraduate training. In addition, SSDPP has also established a subsidy system for students to participate in high-level academic conferences to broaden their horizons and improve their academic literacy in communication. In recent years, SSDPP has funded many students to participate in academic exchange activities, achieving good results in talent training.
