Professor Joshua Miller is now Professor at Smith College, USA. He is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Action Alliance of Social Welfare, the Society for Social Problems, the Psychological Society of Social Affairs and the Society of National Professors. Professor Miller is an acknowledged expert in the field of mental health after disasters and the construction of social psychological capability. He was once on the staff at the Wandsworth Service Center in Britain and the family-Society Service Center in Massachusetts. Twenty years of experience have enriched his work greatly.

Professor Miller has also taken part in many international activities in the aftermath of disasters, such as 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina, where he provided clinical support for risk intervention. In 2006, he was awarded the Bonnie Snyder Prize issued by the American Red Cross. He also paid great attention to research against the background of cross-cultural issues and globalization, as well as the interactive relationship between families and social communities. His efforts have contributed a great deal to the practical and theoretical developments in these fields.

In the Fall, 2009, Professor Miller was invited to our school to do cooperative research and co-taught with Professor Wang Xiying a graduate course, "Psychosocial Capacity Building in Response to Disasters in an International Context" which received much praise from the students.

• Devleloping psychosocial capacity building projects in Sichuan Provence, China, in response to the Wenchuan earthquake.
• Writing a book on the social ecology of disaster and psychosocial capacity building.
• Co-editing a book on psychosocial capacity building projects in response to the Wenchuan earthquake.
