On March 19, 2009, our school held the Globalising Development Debates Roundtable in Beijing, China together with Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Britain.

Mr. Nick Perkins from IDS gave the first speech, which was about perspective studies of global development. During the meeting, Doctor He Jin from Ford Foundation narrated the reasons why CPF chose BNU and the intention of the whole project. His proposal of "doing trivial things and practical things" was quite innovative to the audience. Professor Zhang Xiulan talked about the challenges China faced in the process of globalization and pointed out that, China need to not only learn the advanced skills and instruments, but also solve the self-growth problems with creative thoughts. All of the attendants were involved in the discussion about global development, challenges and opportunities for China, etc.

Representatives from the graduate school of China Institution of Contemporary International Relations, Oxfam Hong Kong, CAITEC and China Agricultural University, etc. also joined the seminar.
