University of Delaware Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. George Watson, and Other Guests Visit SSDPP 

 

On the morning of April 6, 2011, the University of Delaware's Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. George Watson as  well as Professor Ivan Sun from the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Professor Joanne Nigg from the Disaster Research Center visited the SSDPP. The Vice Dean of the SSDPP, Hu Xiaojiang, received these guests on behalf of the school. The visitors and their hosts briefly introduced their respective institutes and research fields to one another. Later, Professor Joanne Nigg gave a lecture to SSDPP teachers and students, titled "Disaster Research: Approaches and Interests". Integrating the results of her research, Professor Nigg introduced her primary work in disaster research at the Disaster Research Center, including how to communicate effectively with the public, how to improve knowledge and understanding of operations, favorable and unfavorable factors in long-term mitigation plans and the implementation of mitigation plans, the handling of public health emergencies, natural and man-made disasters and so on. After her speech, SSDPP teachers and students discussed disaster research-related issues with Professor Nigg issues, each according to his or her own research field.
