At 19:00, November 13, 2020, SSDPP’s reading salon themed on "reading academic classics to improve critical thinking ability" of doctoral freshmen & the academic experience sharing between new and old students was held successfully at Room 2030, Rear Main Building, Beijing Normal University. The participants include eight students from the 2020 Doctoral Class at Beijing Campus and two guests invited to the event, namely: Wang Zhaoxin, a doctoral student enrolled at SSDPP in 2018, and Liu Yuemei, a doctoral student enrolled at SSDPP in 2019. The meeting was presided over by Monitor Yang Ling, and the main contents include "academic experience sharing between new and old students" and "classic book recommendation and learning".

 

In terms of academic experience sharing between new and old students, Wang Zhaoxin, a doctoral student enrolled in 2018, and Liu Yuemei, a doctoral student  enrolled in  2019, successively shared their experience. First of all, combined with his learning experience and his experience in having several articles printed in CSSCI, Wang Zhaoxin shared many unique and practical experiences and methods in detail, covering the time planning, key node arrangement, topic selection, writing, contribution and publication of academic papers during his doctoral study. Then, taking her latest article printed in China Public Administration as an example, Liu Yuemei carried out in-depth analysis of how to effectively read and manage the literatures, how to obtain new ideas and inspiration in the communication and discussion with others, and how to persist in continuous writing of academic papers, etc. After that, in the interaction, the atmosphere reached a climax. The students actively asked questions and sought advices. The two guests also patiently and carefully answered the questions and provided many pertinent suggestions for the students.

 

Finally, after the academic experience exchange activity, combined with the academic background of the doctoral students and the learning needs of our students, the class committee recommended the relevant books on methodology and administration theory to the students, and carried out reading, learning, discussion and analysis, encouraging the students to exchange more reading and learning insights, learn to respect differences and be diligent in thinking and willing to share.

 

Through cross-grade communication and reading experience sharing, the event has not only enhanced the communication and understanding between doctoral freshmen and senior students, but also created a good common learning atmosphere and academic exchange environment, which was highly praised by the guests and students.
